What are some simple chores for 5 year olds to get started with?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some easy and kid-friendly chores that my 5-year-old can handle. I’m interested in ideas that keep them engaged and maybe even teach them a bit about responsibility. Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

I found that having my kid greet the day by putting his shoes on a mat kept things neat. There was also a spot on a low shelf for his books after reading. We kept these tasks simple and clear so he could handle them without fuss.

I noticed that getting my kid involved early on helps a lot. My little one enjoys simple tasks like tidying up toys or sorting a small pile of laundry. I also tried having him help set the table and put his dishes away after meals. It feels less like a routine chore when we turn it into a shared activity. Keeping it light and fun seems to spark more interest in doing these tasks rather than thinking about them as duties.

I remember how fun it was watching my little one help out with simple tasks. One chore that worked for us when our kid was just starting out was putting away their lightweight toys into a basket after playtime. I also found that letting them carry their own small laundry basket to the hamper was a good way to get in the habit. Sometimes, I had them help with feeding the family pet or tidying up the area where they had snacks. It wasn’t about perfection but about feeling like they played a part in keeping the house running. These little tasks made the day feel more like a team effort and helped build a sense of responsibility early on. There’s something special about watching them take pride in doing something on their own .
